INVERSION

Ruth Stockdale & Robert Smith

INVERSION was formed by Robert and Ruth in 2002 whilst they were both at Trinity College of Music. They first performed around London as a Flute and Piano Duo, but after a series of rehearsals in the Old Royal Naval College Chapel using the organ, they decided to form their unique Flute and Organ Duo. The different and changeable tone colours on the flute can be echoed and blended on the organ due to the organs’ matched use of air and pipes. Ruth and Robert perform extensively in many cathedrals and churches throughout England and are part of concert series’ and music festivals around London, where they both live.

Ruth and Robert are both award-winning musicians in their own right. Ruth studied at King’s College, London, then Trinity College of Music where she was taught by Anna Noakes and Wissam Boustany. Ruth freelances for orchestras around England, performs frequently in London and is in high demand as both a player and a teacher. Robert became the Director of Music at St Peter's Church, Brandon, Suffolk when he was 16 and then studied organ and voice at Trinity College of Music. He has been assistant organist at the Old Royal Naval College Chapel, Greenwich, London and St Michael's Church, Cornhill, London. Robert was a member of the vocal group, VOCES8, from 2009 to 2013 with whom he toured worldwide. Robert is the Director of Music at St. Mary-at-Hill, Lovat Lane, London, a post he has held since 2007.

Inversion give workshops in schools all over the UK, encouraging children to create music through singing and promoting instrumental lessons.
